Boo!

Hello.
Hope I haven't scared anyone too badly. I know that seeing my blog updated is probably scarier than my halloween theme. Like seeing a ghost!
Anyway, it was starting to get that not-very-lived-in look around here so I pried myself away from all the fun and games over at yahoo and stopped by to spruce the place up a bit.

Happy Hump Day

Rainy Day Blues

I decided to try something bright and sunny today because it's been dark, dreary, and cold all day here in South Jersey.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

The wind has been blowing like crazy, it rained so hard that the pool overflowed, and I just don't care. I have cigarettes, I have coffee, and I have an internet connection. Life is good. Now, if my children were in bed, I'd be able to really relax. My baby girl is almost six now and not such a baby anymore. She loves to torture her brothers until they do something back, usually nothing more than an unkind word, and then she pours on the drama. I hope this "phase" is a short one! Have a great night everyone...and...

Don't forget to pin the map before you go.
Thanks!

Snow

Hello

Well, the last time it snowed here in South Jersey, I posted in my journal. When I woke up to snow on Sunday morning I decided to come spend some time here and at least take down the Christmas decorations. One thing led to another and I got most of the new layout done. I borrowed the background from my Yahoo 360 blog which made it easier. Then I made the map account and put that in and was ready for bed. Monday I never even signed on. I left at 8:00am to help a friend move and didn't get home untill almost 10:00 pm. I have some new pic's coming after I go have lunch with the wife.

Snow

Well, we finally got a little snow here in south jersey. It only added up to about four inches by the time it stopped this morning but it was enough to make the trees look pretty and remind us that it really is December. Wow! Only three more weeks 'til Christmas! I am soooo NOT ready for this. I haven't been on the computer in ages because I've been working every minute that I possibly can for whoever needs me after work and on days off. My new "regular" job, delivering appliances for lowes home center, pays about half of what I have been making for the last four years, so I have to work twice as many hours just to break even. All of my "extra" money from selling fire wood and doing mechanic work on the side seems to be going into the soup pot instead of the Christmas gift fund. Guess the adults are just going to have to be understanding this year because the kids are getting it all. Well...my coffee is done brewing now so my 'puter time is over...back to splitting fire wood. Sorry I haven't been around to see anyone lately, nothing personal...really! Just reality trying to take over my whole life as usual. Here's some pics of our little snow. Hope everyone is getting in the spirit, see y'all soon.

New Project

Well, here's the latest project. A two car garage with a lift that my brother is building. Today we got the footing dug and leveled. The hard part was done with a backhoe but there was still pleanty of hand shoveling and raking to level things up.

After it was level, we set the form boards, made sure everything was square, and double checked the dimensions.

Then we wrapped up for the day. On the way home, we stopped at home depot and picked up the re-bar which we'll put in tomorrow and then we'll call for an inspection. I'm beat! have a great night everyone.

Today I listened

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Today my wife and daughter had a baby shower to attend and were unable to attend church services as we usually do. My first thought was of all of the things that I could accomplish with the day off from church...Then the small, still, voice spoke up and reminded me of the sabbath, that I should not be working today, that I should be in church regardless of my wife's plans for herself. "But I don't drive and our church isn't within bicycle range", my mind began. "Your usual church isn't the only Christian church in this area",the voice answered. "There are two Baptist churches that are no more than fifteen minutes away even on a bike." I went to my local yahoo and found the service times and addresses. I chose the First Baptist Church of Egg Harbor City, where I was warmly welcomed by the congregation of about thirty. It was quite a change from the three hundred plus worshipers at each of the three morning services that we're used to. There were no donuts and pastries, no fresh hot coffee, no welcome center at all actually, but there was welcomness. And fellowship. And family. I immediately felt that I belonged and I realised that I did belong because I was a member. Not a member of this local church, but a member of the family of God, of which this church and these people were a part. The music was from our hymnals, taking me back to my childhood, our voices accompanied by just a piano. Not an electric guitar or drum set to be found. But they had a choir dressed in robes , something I've never experienced before. And Pastor Ort's message? "Are you shipshape in your relationships?", which ties in perfectly with our church's current series! Yes, I was in the right place. I was in my Father's house and I thanked him for guiding my decision to listen.

POWER WHEELS?

Well, the big maple is almost done. Looks like about 3 cords of wood when it's all split and stacked. Sure was a lot of work!!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Thank goodness for log splitters..some of this stuff would have been impossible to split by hand.

Now it's on to some more reasonable size trees next-door

A while back, I bought my daughter a power wheels monster truck to drive around the yard. I picked it up at a yard sale for $25 but the batteries were trashed...Wouldn't hold a charge at all. New ones were $35 each and it takes two to run it
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Sooo..with a little help from the sawzall and a bit of rewiring...

...and a 12v. battery from one of my garden tractors...

..my daughter now has a VERY fast little monster truck!!
